You may know where your next meal is coming from but unfortunately 500,000 people – or 1 in 8 — in northern Illinois face hunger. Hunger is present in every neighborhood. It quite possibly affects your neighbors, co-workers, and many of the people you interact with on a daily basis like the cashier at the grocery store, the waitress at your favorite restaurant, and the landscaper who mows your lawn.
Northern Illinois Food Bank provides food to more than 60,000 hungry neighbors each week, an increase of 65 percent since 2006. Overhead Garage Door Inc. is proud to support the Northern Illinois Food Bank and has pledged to donate $500 to the organization, plus $1 for each “like” it receives on its Facebook page (up to 2,000 likes). Northern Illinois Food Bank turns a simple $1 donation into six nutritious meals for a hungry neighbor. Northern Illinois Food Bank engages the community in a commitment to feed our hungry neighbors. Across 13 counties, food manufacturers, local groceries, corporations, foundations, and individuals come together to donate food and funds, and evaluate and repack food for distribution to more than 600 partner food pantries, soup kitchens, shelters andyouth and senior feeding programs. One in five children don’t always know when their next meal will be, and over half of children affected by hunger in the food bank’s service area are ineligible for aid from federal nutrition programs.
